The popular Brighton Wheel is set to return to the city next year.
At a Cabinet meeting last week, Brighton & Hove City councillors agreed to grant a lease for the attraction, giving the go-ahead for its return to its original site on Madeira Drive.
The Brighton Wheel will be operated by the family run business behind the Brighton Zip & Daltons Venue which has more than 15 years of experience managing attractions on the seafront.
Under the new lease, the operator will be fully responsible for all operational costs, staffing, maintenance, business performance and day-to-day trading activity. As a result, the council will receive a guaranteed commercial rent for the duration of the lease.
Councillor David McGregor, Cabinet member for Economy, Culture, Heritage and Tourism, said:
We are delighted to grant a lease, which will pave the way for the return of the Brighton Wheel and give residents and visitors another great reason to visit our eastern seafront.Β
As our seafront regeneration continues, the Wheel will not only complement existing attractions but also provide much needed income for the council.
With the lease now in place, a planning application can be submitted and, if approved, the Wheel could be up and running by next summer.
