Brighton & Hove City Council is inviting expressions of interest from organisations that can invest in a new future for the seafront paddling pool and playground.
The council is looking for proposals from experienced leisure operators, investors and developers to fund, design, build and operate a new public water play facility and children's playground on the site of the current Kings Road paddling pool and playground.
Any proposal must provide a high-quality family play area and paddling pool that will remain free for residents and visitors to enjoy. In turn, a complementary commercial leisure offer on the adjacent site would make it an attractive offer for investors and supporting the long-term investment and sustainability of the public facility.
The proposed redevelopment area includes the existing paddling pool and playground, which would be modernised, alongside improvements to toilets, changing facilities, landscaping and seating. The opportunity also includes an adjacent 1,000 square metre site that could accommodate a leisure, hospitality or wellbeing offer, helping to draw more people to the area throughout the year.
As a minimum, proposals must provide a high-quality, free-to-use paddling pool and playground. But the council is also keen to explore innovative ideas a developer might have for using the space, including a destination that would support alternative seasonal uses outside the summer months.
The successful partner would be responsible for funding the facility's design and construction, as well as its ongoing operation and maintenance.
